Holy Week is a time for many to pray, reflect,
and engage in religious services.

  • Many Catholics go to confession on Holy Week to seek forgiveness and release any anger or resentment.
  • Some avoid watching television from sundown on Holy Thursday until Easter morning.

Where did Holy Week happen?

Holy Week is a string of eight days that allow Christians an opportunity to reflect upon the shift in humanity Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross launched. It starts with Palm Sunday when Jesus enters the city of Jerusalem.

What happens on Holy Monday?

On Holy Monday, also known as Monday of Holy Week, Christians remember and reflect on key events from the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem. These events include the cleansing of the Temple, Jesus cursing the fig tree, and the anointing of Jesus in Bethany.

What happens on Holy Tuesday?

Holy Tuesday is also known as Fig Tuesday “as it commemorates the day Jesus returned to Jerusalem from Bethany, passing a barren fig tree on the way, which he used as an example to teach his disciples.” The passages discussing this are found in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark.

What happens on Holy Wednesday?

In Christianity, Holy Wednesday commemorates the Bargain of Judas as a clandestine spy among the disciples. It is also called Spy Wednesday, or Good Wednesday, and Great and Holy Wednesday. In Western Christianity many churches of various denominations observe the tenebrae service on Holy Wednesday.

What happens on Holy Thursday?

On Holy Thursday, also known as Maundy Thursday, Christians commemorate the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples. This event, which is the central focus of the day, is celebrated through a special Mass where the bread and wine are consecrated, symbolizing the Eucharist, and the priest often washes the feet of parishioners in remembrance of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples.

Jesus came to earth to save humanity by dying on the cross on Good Friday and resurrecting on Easter Sunday. By enduring and defeating death sacrificially for people, He swung open the gates of heaven making a way for sins to be forgiven and usher Christians into the presence of God (Romans 5:8).

What is Station of the Cross Holy Friday?

The Church meditates upon fourteen special events that happened to Jesus on his way to Calvary – these fourteen events are called the Stations of the Cross.
